'The very simplicity of the concept of "giving the public what it wants", and its too frequent use by those whose professional skill is cajolery of the simple-minded, should make us suspicious.' - Sir Hugh Greene, 1962

I think you know what to switch on at 9pm tonight, ladies and gents...
Far be it from this blog to become mere advertising space, but then this is Jonathan Meades; like Adam Curtis or Chris Morris a truly original voice in television. His new series on France ought to be watched by anyone interested in the medium or indeed European culture. There is an amusingly adversarial interview here. Those who have seen Magnetic North or Off Kilter, his eccentric cultural mappings of Northern Europe and Scotland, will clearly watch this. Those who haven't should discover Meades without delay.
